Families with children who want to leave the Hoboken districts of Moretusburg and Hertogvelden are offered to settle elsewhere at Umicore’s expense. The proposal comes after some children’s blood levels were deemed high last week.
The city of Antwerp and the metalworking company Umicore are looking for a solution for the children who live in the districts around the factory in Hoboken and have too high lead levels in their blood. First of all, they want them to breathe as much healthy air as possible this summer.
For example, the city is working on an offer where children can go to camp outside the district at least during the day. Where appropriate, they may be linked to existing initiatives. This has yet to be worked out. More details should be known by the end of the week, announced nons Duchateau (N-VA). He wants to make as many children as possible, not just those with the highest levels of lead in his blood.
Umicore is now working on a long-term solution for families with children who want to leave the Hoboken districts of Moretusburg and Hertogveld. The company wants to support the families morally and financially. The Antwerp City Council will also continue to consult on this issue.
The Antwerp City Council continues to consult with the metalworking company on how a possible move should take place.
This summer, children outside the district can be cared for during the day, possibly in play camps.
