Uber will launch in Flanders on Monday

The Uber platform, an alternative to traditional taxi services, will be launched in Flanders on Monday 9 November. This was announced in a press release.

Via the Uber app, the UberX service will be available throughout Flanders from Monday, with “the highest availability in Antwerp, Ghent and Leuven”. Users can enter their destination and see how much the trip will cost before ordering.

According to Uber, the services are “fully in line with the new Flemish taxi regulations”. In its own words, Uber has seen a surge in demand for amusement rides in recent months.

“I think we can make transport in Antwerp, Ghent and Leuven more efficient and accessible, reduce traffic jams and offer professional drivers new income opportunities. Consumers have been demanding reliable, comfortable and more accessible means of transport in Flanders for years. Especially in these difficult times, we are there to take you everywhere safely, ”says Laurent Slits, Head of Uber Belgium.

Due to the corona pandemic, the platform has introduced special security measures – for example, the requirement for mouth masks, partitions and open windows – and will offer 10,000 free trips for hospital staff via UberMedics. The employees in Antwerp, Leuven and Ghent each receive a maximum of five trips of 15 euros to and from hospitals.

Uber was already available in our country in the Brussels region.
