The online short message service Twitter added a feature on Tuesday that allows users to limit the number of replies to their tweets, Reuters news agency reported. This gives twitterers more control over the conversations on their profile page and is less exposed to trolls and other abuse.
All user accounts, including those of celebrities, government officials, and politicians, can now tweet who can reply. There are three groups to choose from: everyone, only people who follow a user themselves, or people whose username is mentioned in the tweet.
The platform, which has been testing the feature since May, adds that anyone can continue to like and retweet all tweets. However, an answer is not possible if the user has discontinued the new function.
