Trump: Second trade deal with China now unlikely

US President Donald Trump has said it is unlikely that the trade deal with China will be pursued. Tensions between the United States and the Asian country are too tense for this, he told reporters aboard his government plane.

“My head is not on it right now,” Trump said when asked if new trade deals between the two superpowers were imminent. “The relationship with China is badly damaged.”

The US and China signed a partial trade agreement earlier this year after bombing each other with additional import tariffs for a year and a half. In doing so, they ended their trade war for the time being. When the agreement was signed, they agreed to negotiate further trade agreements. But tensions between the two countries have risen again recently, partly because of Hong Kong.
