Almost all Dutch people (91 percent) believe that King Willem-Alexander should remember that vacationing in Greece in Corona time is unwise, regardless of the advice of Prime Minister Mark Rutte. This is the result of a survey by Hart van Nederland of almost 4,000 Dutch people participating in the SBS program panel. For 65 percent of those surveyed, the reputation of the royal family is damaged.
The king immediately announced on Friday that he would end his vacation. He and his family returned to the Netherlands on Saturday evening. Rutte was aware of the King and Queen Máxima’s vacation plans. This created a lot of excitement among MPs and on social media, especially as Rutte urged everyone to postpone unnecessary trips during his Tuesday night press conference.
Rutte should have warned the king that in view of the tightened corona measures, many parties in the House of Representatives believe that his vacation in Greece should be canceled.
