The Dutch apple harvest is expected to be slightly lower this year than in the previous year. On the other hand, the amount of pears harvested in the Netherlands is roughly the same. This is what the industry associations GroentenFruithuis and NFO say on the basis of the new harvest estimate. For this estimate, measurements were carried out in orchards in the Netherlands, which give a representative picture.
Fruit House and NFO expect 234 million kilos of apples to be picked, a 14 percent drop from the previous year. The amount of pears maturing in dutch orchards is estimated at 373 million kilograms, which is the same as last year’s harvest.
Apples are expected to have fewer Elstars, the most grown apple in the Netherlands. This year, for example, the Jonagold and the Golden Delicious are less homemade. The Junami is more cultivated. In the case of pears, the conference is still the most cultivated species.
Whether apples become more expensive depends on the harvest in other European countries. The new harvest of apples and pears will be available from mid-August.
