There are always a lot of visitors at the entrances, people singing, cheering and shaking hands and that does not comply with the guidelines to keep a distance of 1.5 meters and not to shake hands, the measures that have been taken to prevent the spread contain the corona virus. The mayors of municipalities such as Maastricht, Sittard-Geleen, Kerkrade and Heerlen consider it irresponsible to organize the Sinterklaas entry as usual due to the increasing number of corona infections. “As long as the coronavirus is in our country, the public health risks are too great if they have occurred,” reports the security region.
The organizers of the entries are encouraged to be creative and to think of “virtual, small or flow-through parties”. “After all, the Sinterklaas festival is a public festival and a children’s festival, and attention should definitely be paid to that.”
Last week, the Sinterklaas tours in North and Central Limburg were also banned because of the corona risks.
