On Tuesday, prosecutors called for mandatory treatment of 57-year-old Marcel J. in Haarlem for the fatal attack on an 83-year-old Amsterdam woman late last year. Before the court in Haarlem, the public prosecutor spoke of “senseless violence with a terribly sad outcome”.
J. and the victim didn’t know each other. They clashed on December 22nd near the elevator in an assisted living complex where the 83-year-old man had just visited a friend and where the suspect lived. There J. gave him four to five hard blows on the head. The victim suffered a cerebral haemorrhage as a result of the beating and died six days later in the hospital.
J. said he saw the 83-year-old man as an intruder. According to experts, the Haarlemmer is completely insane. He has been known as a psychiatric patient for forty years. He is psychotic, paranoid and has hallucinations.
