The left opposition is pushing for the plans for Lelystad Airport, which is to become an overflow airport for Schiphol, to be abolished. These parties were already against the opening anyway and believe that due to the corona crisis there is absolutely no reason for it.
According to Van Nieuwenhuizen, it is impossible to predict how aviation will develop after the corona crisis. Schiphol has also not yet received any reports from airlines leaving their slots. “We will not change long-term policy on the basis of crisis policy,” said the minister.
The opening has already been postponed four times. It is now intended that the first holiday flights will depart from Lelystad Airport in November 2021.
