The Minister for Poverty Reduction Karine Lalieux (PS) is releasing 500,000 euros to support sex workers. The corona crisis made it particularly difficult for them socially and financially, says the PS minister.
The corona crisis affects everyone, but affects vulnerable groups “twice as much,” says PS Minister Lalieux. This also applies to sex workers. “Thousands have lost their livelihood overnight or are not receiving a replacement income because their profession is not recognized. Their difficulties are enormous, but they are unknown and hardly visible, ”explains Lalieux.
The PS Minister is now releasing 500,000 euros for additional support. The funds go directly to specialized non-profit organizations in five cities (Antwerp, Ghent, Brussels, Charleroi and Liège).
“Like all other citizens, sex workers should be well supported and guided,” says Minister Lalieux. “The non-profit organizations do an excellent job in this regard. Thanks to the additional 500,000 euros, they are strengthening their presence with those who urgently need it, ”concluded the PS Minister.
