LIVE | New record for daily corona infections domestically worldwide

For the first time, the number of new corona cases has increased by more than 400,000 per day worldwide. Europe, which has successfully overcome the first peak of infection, has entered the new epicenter for the coronavirus in recent weeks. The continent has reported an average of 140,000 cases a day over the past week. That’s more than India, Brazil, and the United States combined.

According to an analysis by the Reuters news agency, 34 out of 100 infections reported worldwide came from European countries. Europe currently reports a million new infections roughly every nine days and has more than 6.3 million cases since the pandemic began.

The United Kingdom, France, Russia, the Netherlands and Spain accounted for around half of the new cases in Europe for the week ending October 18, according to the census.

France reports the highest 7-day average of new cases in Europe with 19,425 infections per day, followed by Great Britain, Russia, Spain and the Netherlands.

Several European countries are closing schools, canceling unnecessary surgeries and urging medical students to intervene due to the resurgence of the virus.

In Russia, students are currently being educated online, and Northern Ireland will close schools for two weeks and restaurants for four weeks. In Spain, the Catalan authorities decided to close bars and restaurants for 15 days and limited the number of people allowed in the shops.

Distance learning is also offered in the Czech Republic and thousands of medical students are called in to help out in hospitals. Polish health officials warned that the country was on the verge of disaster. The country is considering the establishment of military hospitals.

According to Reuters, Latin America is still the hardest hit area with around 27 percent of the total number of Covid-19 cases, followed by Asia, North America and Europe.
