The bird has been flying around with the gate around its beak for at least a week. But on Saturday afternoon we managed to get hold of the unfortunate guy. “The heron was approached from both sides and we were finally able to catch it with a net!” Writes Animal Ambulance Midden Nederland on Facebook.
Despite the bar on its beak, the bird was able to eat and not weaken, reports Omroep Flevoland.
The grate has now been cut from the beak and the damage doesn’t seem to be that bad, reports the animal ambulance worker. To be on the safe side, the animal is allowed to stay overnight for observation in the bird hospital in Naarden.
