The Film Fund distributed a total of EUR 4.6 million to film theatres that had applied for financial support for the Corona period. A total of 26 applications were submitted. The amount of aid will be provided by the Film Fund and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, the fund announced on Friday.
This money is intended to compensate the film theatres for the time when they had to close their doors because of the coronary crisis. The financial support is therefore retroactive. The municipalities in which the theatres are located have indicated how much they contribute to the financial problems of the theatres. After that, the film fund has matched the amount as far as possible.
The theatres could submit an aid application for the months of March, April and May. The Film Fund reports that the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science must decide whether to extend funding for cinemas.
A large inventory of the film crane showed this week that many movie theaters fear they will not make it by the end of the year. The theatres also argue that the existence of the Dutch film theatre landscape is to be feared.
