Finance Minister Vincent Van Peteghem (CD&V) starts a striking experiment. In a public survey he would like to involve all interested parties in the development of new VAT laws for e-commerce. This message De Tijd Tuesday.
In Europe, member states have to implement the E-Commerce Directive by July 1st. The crux of the matter is that from now on VAT must be paid in the country of the consumer who ordered the goods.
“Even though it is a very complex matter, I would like to have a full consultation,” said the minister. “The aim is to achieve a level playing field for all actors involved.”
In particular, Van Peteghem wants to get rid of the practice of lobbyists calling “friendly” closets to enforce their vision. The poll runs until November 11th.
