Shortly after the outbreak of the corona pandemic, the American airline decided to leave the seats in the middle empty. This increases the distance between the passengers on board and responds to the call to distance oneself socially.
Previous research found the likelihood of contamination on board aircraft to be extremely low, but according to Delta, many travelers still enjoy not sitting right next to an unfamiliar person. “We listen to our customers and we’ve taken this step to give them peace of mind,” said Bill Lentsch, Delta’s chief customer experience officer.
Delta says it is the only American airline still using this measure. In addition, the company applies the statutory corona rules: mouth masks are mandatory on board and the devices are thoroughly disinfected before each flight.
