PostNL achieved higher sales and profits in the second quarter thanks to the corona crisis. Due to the virus outbreak and measures to prevent it from spreading, people ordered online more often and the postal and parcel company was busy delivering parcels home.
PostNL’s total turnover was EUR 789 million compared to EUR 681 million in the previous year. In the Parcels division, sales rose by no less than a quarter to 516 million euros. PostNL’s normalized profit was EUR 54 million. A year earlier that was 39 million euros.
In the postal department, PostNL saw a 16 percent drop in volume. Although people sent significantly more greeting cards to family and friends in the first quarter, mailing was lower in the second quarter, especially since many companies recently decided to postpone mailings.
For the year as a whole, the company continues to expect an operating result of well over 110 to 130 million euros, as already forecast in a trade update in June. “Although uncertainty about the global impact of the pandemic appears to be increasing, we are confident that we can deliver a very solid performance for 2020 as a whole,” said Herna Verhagen, CEO of PostNL.
