Six months after jor up jor up jos-down as Belfius CEO, the Staatsbank has already begun the search for his successor. Headhunter Egon Zehnder would make it. It is unclear when the new president will be found. That’s what De Tijd wrote on Friday.
Last year, Belfius was also looking for a new chairman. According to De Tijd, this search threatened to reach an impasse because of real fears that top favorite Filip Dierckx (ex-BNP Paribas Fortis) would not get through the strict review of the National Bank and the European Central Bank. These supervisors must decide whether directors and managers in the banking sector are suitable for this task.
To ensure the stability and continuity of Belfius, the 70-year-old chairman offered clijsters to stay in office for a maximum of two years longer. Finance Minister Alexander De Croo (Open VLD) accepted this as a thank you. Clijsters’ mandate was extended by two years at the Belfius Annual General Meeting in April.
