Major European and American airlines want to be able to transport passengers between Europe and the United States again. They therefore call on the authorities in Brussels and Washington to cooperate in joint tests of air passengers on Covid-19. This would make it possible to restart the passenger flow.
American Airlines, United Airlines, Lufthansa and International Airlines Group (IAG), the parent company of Iberia and British Airways, have written together. They sent them to US Vice President Mike Pence and Ylva Johansson, the Commissioner for the Interior.
Because of the Corona crisis, Europe is locked up for most Americans, and vice versa, the US for most Europeans. Mutual consultation has not yet led to the reopening of borders. “We recognise that testing is a number of challenges, but we believe that a transatlantic testing program could be an excellent opportunity for government and industry to work together and find ways to overcome obstacles,” the airlines said.
