Route Mobiel will discontinue its breakdown insurance after almost seventeen years Companies Announced Thursday. This means that the counterpart to the breakdown assistance of the ANWB breakdown assistance no longer exists. The cessation of activities takes place after the takeover of the parent company Reaal Schadeverzekeringen by Nationale-Nederlanden.
Consumers can therefore no longer apply for insurance with Route Mobiel. Existing customers can use the company’s breakdown assistance until the end of their insurance year. However, you can also cancel early.
Route Mobiel was co-founded in 2004 by Michiel Muller, previously the driving force behind the Tango gas station formula and co-founder of the online supermarket Picnic.
In the first year the ANWB lost more than 85,000 members to the new competitor. In 2006 the breakdown service was taken over by SNS Reaal. In its prime, Route Mobiel had about a quarter of a million members, compared to about 4.6 million for the ANWB.
