“Ahold Delhaize considers offer for Hema”

"Ahold Delhaize considers offer for Hema"

Ahold Delhaize is considering joining the battle for Hema. This was reported by the Dutch business daily Het Financieele Dagblad on Thursday, citing insiders. According to the newspaper, the Dutch-Belgian supermarket group has commissioned investment bank Lazard to investigate a takeover.

Ahold Delhaize wants to prevent rival Jumbo Hema from acquiring it. In addition, the group hopes to cross the fertilization between Hema and the supermarkets of Ahold Delhaize. A spokesman for Ahold Delhaize declined to comment to the newspaper.

Hema has been in the hands of a group of creditors since last month. They took over the power in the company in exchange for the debt reduction of 300 million euros, and the department store chain separated from Marcel Boekhoorn as owner.

According to FD, Jumbo’s name has been circulating as a potential buyer for some time. If you want to take over Hema, you have until Monday to express your interest in the retail chain. Last month, the interest of Mirage Retail Group, the parent company of dutch chain Blokker, was revealed.

According to Hema, Hema has more than 750 stores and 19,000 employees worldwide. The chain operates in 12 countries, including Belgium. There are about a hundred shops in our country.
