Almost 20,000 Amazon employees tested positive for the corona virus between March and September. The American webshop giant announced the infection numbers on a blog after employees and politicians criticized the company for not providing enough information about corona cases in the workplace.
A total of 19,816 Amazon employees from the “front” who work in delivery, distribution centers or Whole Foods supermarkets are infected. According to the technology company, this corresponds to a percentage of 1.4 percent of a total of 1.4 million employees.
This spring, workers and unions in several countries strongly criticized Amazon for doing too little to prevent coronavirus outbreaks in busy distribution centers. The company itself attaches great importance to investing heavily in testing. By November, the company wants to have enough of its own capacity to carry out 50,000 corona tests every day at 650 locations.
